State spending for the 2012-13 budget sits at $34.088 billion after being passed by the Legislature in the 2012 legislative session. That’s $3 billion less than Governor Dayton proposed and $5 billion less than the auto-pilot spending that caused the $6.1 billion budget deficit in 2011. That deficit was gone by the start of 2012, and the 2012-13 budget now holds a surplus of more than $1 billion, according to the Minnesota Management & Budget Office.
