Minnesota adopts a new path for getting teachers into the classroom.
In 2011, the Legislature passed the Alternative Teacher Certification program for aspiring teachers. Under the program, mid-career professionals who are experts in their field of work can receive a two-year teaching license as they work toward a full five-year license. It opens up teaching for professional experts in subjects like science, math and engineering – subjects critical to preparing students for jobs in tomorrow’s global economy.
