Minnesota is better prepared to handle the production and sale of synthetic drugs
The 2012 Legislature built upon new law from 2011 by expanding the definition of illicit ‘synthetic’ substances and granting the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy expedited rulemaking authority to handle the ever-changing chemical formulae used by synthetic drug producers. The Legislature also increased the penalty for the sale of synthetic drugs from a gross misdemeanor to a felony. The new law enhances public safety by preemptively tackling this emerging, deadly problem in our state and country.
