There are 3 news items I would like to share with you.
Fundraiser for Ben
Chip Cravaack will be the featured guest at a fundraiser for Ben Wiener, the endorsed candidate for the seat I am retiring from. The fundraiser will be held at the Pine City American Legion on Saturday, October 20th from 2pm to 4pm. Please stop in and show your support for Ben. I look forward to seeing you there.
It takes a lot of time and money to get our candidates elected. This I know from personal experience!
We need people to help assemble literature this Tuesday and/or Wednesday.
Mike Cummins will be hosting a MCCL stuffing party on Tuesday night. He will have the MCCL paper, and comparison sheets between Obama vs Romney, and Chip vs Nolan. This will be for a Sunday church parking lot windshield lit drop. Assembly will be at Mike’s house, 7727 Sod Road Brook Park, he has a big screen (14′) to watch the debate, and he mentioned pizza and pop.
The candidate lit assembly will be at Jim Evenson’s Wednesday from 6 PM to 10 PM (if you want to start earlier let Judy Soderstrom know 679-2187). We will be assembling 5000 units for Pine and Kanabec Counties, for Chip Cravaack, Kurt Bill’s, Bill Saumer, Ben Wiener, both amendment initiatives, and the MCCL lit. Jim’s address is 2028 226th out of Mora. Bring snacks to share.
Guardian of Small Business Award
And finally, a great honor for me as one of the major reasons I ran for office was to help find relief for small businesses who have been struggling in the current economic environment.
Last week I was awarded the prestigious Guardian of Small Business Award. To win a Guardian of Small Business Award, legislators had to demonstrate a pro-small-business voting record during the 87th session of the Minnesota legislature. Lawmakers were scored based on 10 votes taken in the state House of Representatives and Senate. Some of the votes mentioned included voting for critical tax reductions and reforms to make Minnesota more competitive and also for supporting major tort reform to reduce lawsuit abuse. Also noted was my support for a critical measure requiring the Legislature to review and approve new rules and regulations that are burdensome and expensive for small businesses to comply with before they go into effect.
