| MEDIA BIAS A Florida Democratic mayor said a report by “60 Minutes” on Gov. Ron DeSantis was “not just based on bad information — it was intentionally false.” The news program received considerable backlash after suggesting that DeSantis had selected grocer Publix to distribute the vaccine because the company gave $100,000 to the governor’s campaign. But Palm Beach County Mayor Dave Kerner said the news program refused to include relevant facts: “They know that the governor came to Palm Beach County and met with me and the county administrator and we asked to expand the state’s partnership with Publix to Palm Beach County.” READ |

| THOMAS ON TECH CENSORS Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas openly questioned if social media companies weren’t violating free speech rights when they censored the use of their platforms. "Today’s digital platforms provide avenues for historically unprecedented amounts of speech, including speech by government actors. Also unprecedented, however, is control of so much speech in the hands of a few private parties," Thomas said. | SENATE RULES The Senate parliamentarian stated that Senate Democrats could pass their infrastructure bill via reconciliation (which requires only a majority vote) rather than 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster. Joe Manchin, D-WV, said he would support a raise in the corporate tax rate to 25% but not to 28% as President Biden wants, because that would hurt the country’s competitiveness. “There’s six or seven other Democrats who feel very strongly about this. | MINNEAPOLIS TRIAL Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo testified that he believes former officer Derek Chauvin’s act of placing his knee on George Floyd’s neck was a violation of the department’s policy and training. “The conscious neck restraint by policy mentions light to moderate pressure. When I look at exhibit 17 and when I look at the facial expression of Mr. Floyd, that does not appear in any way, shape, or form that that is light to moderate pressure," Arradondo said. Asa Hutchinson, R-AR, vetoed a bill that would have banned transgender medical treatments for children, and many Catholic leaders are taking the governor to task. Hutchinson called the bill “off course” and a form of “government overreach,” though “well-intended.” Hutchinson’s veto alarmed many on the political right. “If ‘conservatism’ can’t defend kids against mutilation, it needs to die,” tweeted Sohrab Ahmari of the New York Post.
