Special Advisory: MN GOP Postpones Conventions Due to Coronavirus

Dear Fellow Republicans,

On Thursday evening, the Republican Party of Minnesota Executive Committee voted to postpone all party organized conventions and large gatherings effective immediately through April 15, 2020.

It is the Republican Party of Minnesota’s responsibility to put the health and safety of Minnesotans, our grassroots activists, candidates, and elected officials first. After conversations with our national and state-level partners, the executive board felt this was the best course of action for our party and the well-being of all Minnesotans during this uncharted time.

Over the past week many cancellations have taken place around the state and country, including:

On Wednesday night, President Trump announced a 30-day travel ban from Europe to the United States.
The University of Minnesota cancelled in-person classes through the end of the month.
The NBA, MLB, NHL, NFL and NCAA cancelled, postponed or suspended seasons and training camps.
New York cancelled gatherings for larger than 500 people – Broadway and museums are shut down.

This afternoon Governor Tim Walz is holding a press conference at 1 PM CST. And, PRESIDENT TRUMP is set to declare a national emergency at 2 PM CST. Please tune-in for details to be announced.

We are working on contingency plans and adjustments to support our grassroots, BPOU and County Party Units through this process. A more detailed email will be sent out directly to party unit leaders next week with action and support plans.

Out of an abundance of caution and listening to the Minnesota Department of Public Health, the CDC, our Elected Officials and Key Medical Leaders, this was the right decision to make for our party and state.
