MINNEAPOLIS, MN – U.S. House Republicans recently passed legislation that protects basic rights that every parent will have while their children are in school. Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman David Hann applauded the legislation with the statement below:

“Parents have a right to make decisions for their children. While Democrats both in St. Paul and D.C. try to undermine this fundamental right, Republicans are standing up to them. This legislation affirms that parents have the right to know what their children are being taught; the right to be heard; the right to see their school’s budget and spending; the right to protect their child’s privacy; and the right to keep their children safe.

“I applaud the U.S. House Majority and Minnesota Republican Representatives Tom Emmer, Brad Finstad, Michelle Fischbach and Pete Stauber for supporting this legislation. It unfortunately comes as no surprise that no Democrat, including those from Minnesota, voted for the bill and is just another example of their party putting their special interest political allies over the rights and needs of parents and children.” – Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman David Hann

HR 5 passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 213 to 208. Minnesota Democrats Angie Craig, Betty McCollum, Ilhan Omar, and Dean Phillips all voted against the bill. More information about the Parents’ Bill of Rights is available online here.
